My husband and I fell in love with our lake home the first time we drove into the yard. What was not to love: the yard was filled with perennial flowers, the walkway between the house and garage was curved and paved, and the view of the lake was spectacular. The house had been remodeled and added on to throughout the years. The original part of the home, which includes the kitchen, is over a hundred years old. The kitchen wallpaper seemed drab, but this we could easily fix. We made an offer and within two months we were lake home owners.

I was startled by a recent study I came across that revealed that one of the sorely ignored aspects of safety around the house was bath safety. Come to think of it, it is pretty obvious. I mean you have a substance like water in plenty, slippery tiles galore, lots of fixtures and bath fittings that can give you a knock in all the wrong places and human beings, who are prone to succumb to all these. The result is one of the most probable places for an accident at home. Studies conducted in a cross section of American homes reveal that bath safety or the lack of it thereof is the most prominent cause of accidents at home. And the situation is unlikely to change unless there is a radical change in the way our bathrooms are engineered.

I have hardwood flooring in my home but some rooms call for wall to wall carpets. My daughter’s nursery is one of those rooms. I originally loved the wood floors thoroughout the entire home but I just didn’t feel comfortable with the hard wood flooring in my daughter’s room. The nursery called for wall to wall carpets but I just needed to figure out which one to choose.
